OH&LA Lodging Summit a Success - Highlights from Event
The OH&LA recently held its annual Lodging Summit, including the Vendor Expo and Stars of the Industry Awards, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tulsa. Over 210 OH&LA members and guests registered for and took part in the day’s events and, thanks to the superb Hyatt team, this year’s event was an outstanding success.
The morning consisted of four informative educational sessions, including an overview of past, present and future hotel industry trends in "Hotel Industry Performance Trends," presented by STR's Vail Brown, VP Global Strategy, and Lauren Faulkner, Business Development Executive; and a presentation on learning your "Hospitality Personality" as presented by Marcy Luter, Business & Industry Coordinator, Meridian Technology Center.
J. Randall Coffey, Partner, Fisher & Phillips, taught attendees in his session how best to manage social networking in the workplace. Jack Myrick, Community Outreach Manager, Public Strategies, outlined the danger signs, hidden issues, and reactions when dealing with effective conflict management.
Following the educational sessions, attendees joined a host of OH&LA Allied members and guests for the Vendor Expo, highlighting the products and services of 25 suppliers to the industry. "The best Vendor Expo yet," as it was described by several exhibitors, provided an opportunity for many to acquire new business, as well as mingle with current customers in support of the association's objectives. Buyers attending the Expo were eligible for prize drawings provided by exhibitors, plus hotel employees were eligible for a host of prizes dedicated as an incentive for attending educational sessions throughout the morning. This year's Vendor Expo participants included Arrow Machinery Company; Auto-Chlor System; Best Companies, Inc.; Blackmon Mooring; Burgess Company; Clearwater Enterprises; Cox Business Services; Ecolab; GK Solutions/Sure Step; H&D Supply; Heartland Payment Systems; Hositality & Tourism Management Program; McGregor Insurance Group; Natural Water Company; Oklahoma Chapter of Women in Lodging; Oklahoma Hotel & Lodging Association; Oklahoma State University; Red Carpet Charters; Shake, Rattle & Roll; STR; The Culinary Institute of Platt College; Tinker Federal Credit Union; TRC Disaster Solutions; US Foods; and YourNextSpeaker.
Our Silent Auction had some great items and raised more than $3,100 in proceeds which benefit OH&LA member educational programming. A huge thanks to all of our attendees that bid on our great auction packages. Special thanks to all of our Silent Auction donors:

Post keynote, eight Oklahoma lodging professionals, two Oklahoma lodging properties and three educational excellence award recipients were recognized for their “outstanding” contributions to Oklahoma’s lodging industry. Read our special salute to the Stars of the Industry Award recipients.
Concluding event was the Annual Membership Meeting, and Blane Thompson of Holiday Inn Express, Edmond, stepped into the 2013 Chair position. We welcomed the following new board members: Bryan Davis, Riverwind Hotel, Norman; Sharla Hildner, Holiday Inn Express, Duncan; Chris Knipe, Auto-Chlor . Congratulations to all these newly elected board members.
During the meeting, we were also privileged to hear from Ron Vlasic, AH&LA’s 2013 Chair and Regional Vice President of Hotels for Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, who talked about advocacy issues within the hospitality industry and the importance of supporting political action initiatives.
It was a wonderful day, and we look forward to celebrating the Lodging Summit on January 14, 2014 in the Oklahoma City metro area, at a wonderful venue to be announced soon!
